Blue Growth and Entrepreneurship: Opportunities and Challenges in Cyprus

Blue Growth is the long term strategy to support sustainable growth in the marine and maritime sectors as a whole. Seas and oceans are drivers for the European economy and have great potential for innovation and growth. It is the maritime contribution to achieving the goals of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. The aim of the seminar is to discuss, from an entrepreneurial perspective, the opportunities and challenges in selected sectors with comparative advantages and enormous growth potential for the Cypriot island economy.
About The Speaker
Dr Panagiotis Kontakos is Assistant Professor in International Business, MBA Programme Director, Member of the UCLan Cyprus Council and Chair of the Sustainable Economic Development (SED) Research Cluster. His current research interests are focused on the areas of blue entrepreneurship, energy economics, banking & investments in the areas of SEE, Black Sea & East Med regions.
He has extensively presented or published research papers and serves in the editorial team/boards of international scientific journals & business conferences. Further, he currently serves at the European Court of Auditors (ECA) and the Council of Europe (CoE) as Senior External Expert for short assignments in matters of risk control and economics.
