The fight-or-flight response (also called the fight, flight, freeze, or fawn response is a physiological reaction that occurs in response to a perceived harmful event, attack, or threat to survival.
It is that strange feeling when you come across to a fear or anxiety and you feel cold bursts in your spine, your body starts to sweat and you are trying to struggle with the explosion of adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin through your body. Shall I fight for it or shall I run away to safety?
Today I am not going to talk to you about psychology or biology but about the phenomenon of unemployment in Cyprus.
Many talented young Cypriots once finished from their top of the World Class University studies live this phenomenon when they come across to the financial situation in Cyprus. Unemployment hits the peak, job offers are under extinction and opportunities to create a successful business are also minimal. Or not?
Most of the people my age decide to fly away from the problem and pursue their dream career abroad in a more optimistic, with higher opportunities country that will give them the life they want. But once their plane lands in the land of promise, they realize that things are a bit harder than they imagined. Champagne isn't flowing in their glasses, they do not own the car of their dreams, nor they are working in one of the best companies in the World with the highest salary available.
This is where I come to the question. Is Cyprus not enough for the entrepreneurial spirit? Are there no opportunities for Innovation and Growth? Are we still back in 1990 where we are waiting from our Dad to find a job for us that he heard from an uncle or a distant relative?
Cyprus has more to offer. If you just give it a chance. It doesn't matter if your country's' economy sucks. It doesn't matter if there are no more accountant or law openings in Cyprus. It just doesn't matter. As long as you believe in it you can make it happen.
There is always opportunity as long as you are ready to perceive it. Why leave Cyprus when you can bring positive change to your country by just working on your own? There is a serious number of startups evolving in Cyprus and the startup community is growing stronger day-by-day.
Why wait to be employed when you can have the option of creating your own idea into a successful business model? Even if you don't want to create something you can offer your resources to a startup and most of the times your reward will be double and triple from an ordinary job.
I know that this might sound magical and too good to be true but once you enter the amazing trip of entrepreneurship you will understand that your future relies in your hands. And your country's' future relies on your ideas, imagination, passion and persistence to create CHANGE.
No need to say more. If you want it you will make it.
